Supreme Court sides with Christian Baker: Jack Philips

4 06 2018

The Supreme Court held Monday a Christian baker’s religious liberty was violated when Colorado’s Civil Rights Commission penalized him for refusing to bake a wedding cake for a same-sex couple.

The 7 to 2 ruling found the Colorado Civil Rights Commission did not view the baker’s case with “religious neutrality.”

“The reason and motive for the baker’s refusal were based on his sincere religious beliefs and convictions,” Justice Anthony M. Kennedy wrote in the opinion for the court.

Though the court sided with the baker, it did so narrowly, noting, “It is proper to hold that whatever the outcome of some future controversy involving facts similar to these, the Commission’s actions here violated the Free Exercise Clause.

What’s Your Nature?

20 05 2018

A wise old man was sitting at the river bank.

He saw a cat that had fallen into the river struggling to save itself from drowning.

The man decided to save the cat. He stretched out his hand towards the cat but the cat scratched him. He pulled his hand back in pain.

However, a few minutes later he stretched out his hand again to save the cat, but it scratched him again, and again he pulled his hand back in pain.

A few minutes later he was again trying for the third time!!

A man, who was nearby watching what was happening, yelled out, “O wise man, you have not learned your lesson the first time, nor the second time, and now you are trying to save the cat a third time?”

The wise man paid no heed to that man’s scolding, and kept on trying until he managed to save the cat.

He then walked over to the man, and patted his shoulder saying:, “My son… it is in the cat’s nature to scratch, and it is in my nature to love and have sympathy. Why do you want me to let the cat’s nature overcome mine?_
“My son, treat people according to your nature, not according to theirs, no matter what they are like and no matter how numerous their actions that harm you and cause you pain sometimes. And do not pay heed to all the voices that loudly call out to you to leave behind your good qualities merely because the other party is not deserving of your noble actions. So never regret the moments you gave happiness to someone, even if that person did not deserve it.

Jesus treats us according to His nature, just think where we would be if He were to treat us as per our nature… That is why He saves us in spite of ourselves

I gave up fighting those who gossip about me and became successful

28 02 2018

*Worth Reading*

I once asked a very successful woman to share her secret with me. She smiled and said to me.. “I started succeeding when I started leaving small fights for small fighters. I stopped fighting those who gossiped about me…I stopped fighting with my in laws…I stopped fighting for attention…I stopped fighting to meet public expectation of me…I stopped fighting for my rights with stupid people..I left such fights for those who have nothing else to fight…And I started fighting for my vision, my dreams, my ideas and my destiny. The day I gave up on small fights is the day I started becoming successful.”

*Some fights are not worth your time.*
*Choose what you fight for wisely.*

So What Did God do? O’Reilly’s Sex allegations

27 10 2017

Bill O’Reilly of Fox news says he is ‘Mad at God’. It appears that his anger over a number of sex harassment allegations against him has unhinged him at last.
Fox arch rival, The New York Times coordinates these allegations. It reported Saturday that O’Reilly paid $32 million to Lis Wiehl, a Fox News legal analyst who made regular appearances on O’Reilly’s show for 15 years, in a settlement related to sexual harassment allegations. Wiehl accused O’Reilly of “repeated harassment, a nonconsensual sexual relationship and the sending of gay pornography and other sexually explicit material to her,” the Times reported, citing two people briefed on the matter.
So what did God do?
Why is O’Reilly mad at God?
Does God work for the NYT?
We live in a society that is nice to everyone, except God!
We blame him for anything, insult him and nothing happen. No libels, no courtrooms. Main street tells lies about God and his Church all the time and go scot free

One can be mad at someone for an injury suffered for two reasons. Either he blames him for his troubles or he feels that he could stop it but failed to do so. Perhaps, O’Reilly is mad for the second reason.
Then I am surprised. Bill O’Reilly is perhaps the most prominent Catholic conservative on American television. And he doesn’t know his Catholic faith?
God created the world but has left man free. The Catholic Church teaches that God created man in his own image and likeness, and gave him the gift of freewill to enjoy and direct himself through his intelligence, in other words, to act on his own. Thus of all creatures, only man can choose good or evil. If he chooses evil, God does not retract his freedom, for that wouldn’t be true freedom. Thus man may merit heaven or hell when he dies. Heaven if he chooses well, hell if he chooses badly

The men working at the NYT are free, they can choose to publish falsehood, and God will not retract their freedom even to please Bill O’Reilly.
I think O’Reilly should accept that even a good man can suffer injustice. He should read the bible and find plenty of stories of innocent people suffering injustice; he will find the story of Jesus Christ whose enemies devised a vicious plan to kill him by nailing him to the cross. And it worked.

I do sympathize with O’Reilly; there is nothing as unjust and painful as the loss of a good name. As they say, money can’t buy a good name even though it can buy a lot of stuff.
Yes, there is the issue of the children as O’Reilly explained.
“The pain it brings to my children is indescribable,” O’Reilly told the Times when it interviewed him about the reported $32 million settlement. “I would give up my life to protect my children, but I find myself unable to protect them because of things that are being said about me, their father.”
But the children will get over it, as long as they trust Dad’s words more than they trust the NYT. That’s where O’Reilly job is. His kids should trust him more, and if that is a problem , then he has some parenting homework to do.

Let’s assume that O’Reilly is innocent (at least until proven guilty even though he does wish to avoid litigation, to protect his children and his family from being taken to the grinders), instead of raging against God, he should act like other innocent men did when they found themselves persecuted unjustly. They accepted their trials as purification for their sins to better prepare for eternal life when the time came
The just man lives by faith, faith that all things work for good for those who love God. The vicarious atonement of the just man who accepts injustice without grumbling can merit the forgiveness of his own sin and that of others.
He should listen to what St. Josemaria Escriva, a man who suffered great injustice from many people for many years tells us: Force yourself, if necessary, always to forgive those who offend you, from the very first moment. For the greatest injury or offence that you can suffer from them is as nothing compared with what God has pardoned you.”

Pope Francis’ Music

11 10 2017

I could not resist writing  about  Pope Francis’ favorite music. In an interview with Michael J. Ruszala,  Pope Francis said he liked  Mozart

“I loves Mozart, he said, “The ‘Et incarnatus est’ from his Mass in C minor is matchless; it lifts you to God!”

He said he also loved the Mozart performed by Clara Haskil.

” It fulfills me…. And then Bach’s Passions.”

“The piece by Bach that I love so much is the ‘Erbarme Dich,’ the tears of Peter in the ‘St. Matthew Passion.’ Sublime.”

Here is the “Erbarme dich, mein Gott,” by Johann Sebastian Bach: The song describes Peter’s lament after having denied knowing Jesus three times.

Bach shows you his guilt and sadness, in some of the most beautiful and moving music he’s ever written.. Have a go and listen to it, enjoy the Popes favorite tunes.

Incidentally Bach’ s music has been  converting many Atheist to belief in God

Lyrics

Erbarme dich, mein Gott, Um meiner Zähren Willen! Schaue hier, Herz und Auge Weint vor dir bitterlich. Erbarme dich, erbarme dich!

English translation:

Have mercy, my God, for the sake of my tears! Look here, heart and eyes weep bitterly before You. Have mercy, have mercy

The snazzy young man and the old man

9 10 2017

A snazzy, young French man traveling by train to Paris, many years ago was sharing a compartment with on old man who looked like a pauper – simple clothes, short hair, and weather-beaten face.

The man noticed the rosary gripped in the old man’s hands, and the devotion and concentration expressed on his face.

The young man thought he would have some fun, so he said to the old man,

“I see that you still believe in that medieval bunk about praying your beads. Do you also believe in all the other myths the priests try to teach us?”

“Yes, indeed,” the old man answered, “don’t you?”

“Me? Do I believe in all that ridiculous superstition? ”

The young man laughed out loud. Then he said,

” I gave that up in college. And if you want to be smart, you should throw those beads out the window and start studying some real, scientific truth.”

The old man answered,

“I don’t understand what you mean. Maybe you could help me.”

The young whippersnapper felt he had been a little harsh, so he answered,

“Well, I could send you some articles, if you like. Do you know how to read?”

“More or less,” the old man answered.

“Good – so where should I send the material?”

The old man fumbled in his coat pocket and then handed over a card.

It bore a simple inscription: Louis [the “s” is silent] Pasteur [pass-TOUR] – Paris Institute for Scientific Research.

Louis Pasteur was the nineteenth-century giant of microbiology who proved the germ-theory of disease and invented the rabies vaccine.

His great intelligence certainly didn’t hinder his spiritual life. He is an indictment to anyone who claims to be too busy to pray. One can combine great achievement with a humble perseverance in prayer

Strength of Mind

26 09 2017

The kind of intellectual laziness found today even among the highly educated, is absurd and hard to explain given that we are living  in an age of such easy access to information. Watch  Ben Shapiro exposing  the deep ignorance, or the shallow knowledge of a man  who thinks he can justify abortion.
